This monograph discusses the issues of stability and the control of impulsive systems on hybrid time domains, with systems presented on discrete-time domains, continuous-time domains, and hybrid-time domains (time scales). Research on impulsive systems has recently attracted increased interest around the globe, and significant progress has been made in the theory and application of these systems. This book introduces recent developments in impulsive systems and fundamentals of various types of differential and difference equations. It also covers studies in stability related to time delays and other various control applications on the different impulsive systems. In addition to the analyses presented on dynamical systems that are with or without delays or impulses, this book concludes with possible future directions pertaining to this research.

Case-Base Maintenance of Case-Based Reasoning S...

The focus of case-based reasoning research has shifted from issues of building systems towards maintenance of those systems. However, the maintenance research in the past only considered removing cases for restoring the prediction accuracy of a case base. In consequence, knowledge may be lost, and prediction accuracy together with storage space are identified as the only requirements that are useful to satisfy customers. The purpose of this book is to show ways to improve cases, rather than only removing them, through the development and exemplary evaluation of a methodology for maintaining the case base of case-based reasoning systems in classification domains within a structured and systematic shell that indirectly measures and monitors customer requirements and restores the requirements if necessary.Customer requirements are informal descriptions and not directly measurable. Performance measures are the formal specifications of what the customer requires from the system. For example, one customer requirement is that a customer wants the correct answer to problems, and one possible corresponding performance measure is prediction accuracy. However, performance measures can only be calculated when the system is in use, and they do not indicate any conflicts within or between cases. To overcome this shortcoming, the methodology presented in this book introduces case properties and modify operators. Case properties indicate conflicts within or between cases. The degrees of these properties are monitored. If necessary, modify operators edit the conflicting cases to eliminate the indicated conflicts.

This book describes the implementation of green IT in various human and industrial domains. Consisting of four sections: "Development and Optimization of Green IT", "Modelling and Experiments with Green IT Systems", "Industry and Transport Green IT Systems", "Social, Educational and Business Aspects of Green IT", it presents results in two areas - the green components, networks, cloud and IoT systems and infrastructures, and the industry, business, social and education domains. It discusses hot topics such as programmable embedded and mobile systems, sustainable software and data centers, Internet servicing and cyber social computing, assurance cases and lightweight cryptography in context of green IT. Intended for university students, lecturers and researchers who are interested in power saving and sustainable computing, the book also appeals to engineers and managers of companies that develop and implement energy efficient IT applications.

Model-Based Engineering of Embedded Systems

Embedded systems have long become essential in application areas in which human control is impossible or infeasible. The development of modern embedded systems is becoming increasingly difficult and challenging because of their overall system complexity, their tighter and cross-functional integration, the increasing requirements concerning safety and real-time behavior, and the need to reduce development and operation costs. This book provides a comprehensive overview of the Software Platform Embedded Systems (SPES) modeling framework and demonstrates its applicability in embedded system development in various industry domains such as automation, automotive, avionics, energy, and healthcare. In SPES 2020, twenty-one partners from academia and industry have joined forces in order to develop and evaluate in different industrial domains a modeling framework that reflects the current state of the art in embedded systems engineering. The content of this book is structured in four parts. Part I “Starting Point” discusses the status quo of embedded systems development and model-based engineering, and summarizes the key requirements faced when developing embedded systems in different application domains. Part II “The SPES Modeling Framework” describes the SPES modeling framework. Part III “Application and Evaluation of the SPES Modeling Framework” reports on the validation steps taken to ensure that the framework met the requirements discussed in Part I. Finally, Part IV “Impact of the SPES Modeling Framework” summarizes the results achieved and provides an outlook on future work. The book is mainly aimed at professionals and practitioners who deal with the development of embedded systems on a daily basis. Researchers in academia and industry may use it as a compendium for the requirements and state-of-the-art solution concepts for embedded systems development.

A Framework for Adaptive Information Security S...

This research proposes a framework for adaptive information security systems that considers both the technical and social aspects of information systems security. To approach this systemic insecurity problem the research was divided into mini studies that were based on the Systemic-Holistic paradigm, Immune System concepts, and Socio-Technical System theory. Applying the holistic research process the author started first by exploring adaptation systems. After exploring these systems, the focus of the research was to understand the systems and features required for making information security systems learn to adapt to the changing environments. Designing and testing the adaptive framework were the next steps. The acquired knowledge from this research was structured into domains in accordance to ontological principles and relationship between domains was studied. These domains were then integrated with the security value-based chain concept, which include deterrence, prevention, detection, response, and recovery functions to create a framework for adaptive information security systems.
